AI’s impact on environmental sustainability raises complex issues that go beyond the familiar debate of “AI pollutes but could help save the planet.” The rapid expansion of AI infrastructure, including data centers, poses significant challenges in terms of energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. However, newer, more efficient models and the integration of renewable solutions are starting to drive progress. At the same time, AI is an innovation lever for optimizing natural resource management and supply chains. This dual perspective—balancing risks and opportunities—requires enterprises to find a careful equilibrium between economic performance and ecological responsibility, while also highlighting the essential roles of public policy, ethics, and education in guiding AI’s environmental impact.
